Mike Whicker is a Colorado native. He now resides in the Midwest. Whicker is the author of three novels, Invitation to Valhalla, Proper Suda, and Blood of the Reich, the sequel to Invitation to Valhalla.
In the above photo, taken in 2005, Whicker is grilling sausage-burgers 200 miles off the East Coast of the Unites States in the Atlantic Ocean while a crewmember of the World War II warship LST 325. The ship sailed the eastern seaboard on a good-will tour to raise money for the ship’s restoration, stopping in ports of call such as Washington, D.C., the Cape Cod area, and Boston. Shortly after this photo was taken, a submarine surfaced behind the ship. Whicker burned the burgers when he went to his bunk to retrieve his camera.
